Gulf Presbyterian Church
A Small Church in Worship and Ministry

Heritage and Ministry of Gulf Presbyterian Church

A warm and friendly church
(Excepts from a handwritten history compiled In 1936 by Mary S. (Mrs. William S.) Lacy.)

Presbyterian families living in Gulf initially held their membership in Buffalo and Euphronia churches, geographically located near Gulf. Rev. C. K. Caldwell was the first known Presbyterian minister to preach at Gulf about 1864. Ministers from area churches preached in Gulf in those early years. On the 4th Sabbath of January 1882, Rev. P.R. Law organized the church known as Gulf Presbyterian Church with 15 members. During his ministry the sanctuary building was erected.

The membership of Gulf Church has always been small, yet it has wielded great and lasting influences on the community. Through the years, prominent individuals and families have led the church through times of joy and times of difficulty. Many members have held honorable and useful positions in churches to which they have gone, and those who remain are faithfully carrying on the work of the Kingdom.

The current sanctuary has been carefully maintained through the years and represents a place where the Spirit of God is present and worship is meaningful. A fellowship hall, built in 2007 has provided an extension of the fellowship of the church. The church grounds also contain a cemetery with grave sites dating back to the 1800's. A more complete and detailed history of the church is available.
